Dr. William Schmidt is a Licensed Professional Counselor who practices in Houston, Texas. He is the author of “Becoming a Storyteller”. He accompanies older and younger people, couples and communities, in co-creating our world through healthy, conscious and loving relationships. With Dr. Schmidt you find an understanding and helpful therapist who is ready to listen with “absolute, positive regard.”
Counseling Services are provided in English, Spanish and American Sign Language, depending upon need and preference. Services are available in both individual and group settings. Confidentiality and respect are essential to the therapeutic change process.

Dr. Schmidt has spent years in professional schools to obtain degrees at both the Masters and Doctoral level. Dr. Schmidt is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP), and a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW). Schmidt Counseling Associates was established in 1996, and is located in Humble, Texas. He brings decades of experience working with complex issues such as trauma, childhood abuse and compulsive behaviors. Dr. Schmidt maintains his clinical skills by attending annual conferences and symposiums on addiction, trauma and sexual offending.
Recent Training
Overcoming addiction requires hard work and a commitment to become an expert in one’s own experience. The International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) is setting the industry standard in addiction education and treatment. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), Dr. Schmidt assists people in surfacing and resolving the trauma that underlies most addictive behavior.
